From the cover: “During the summer of 1966 Bernard Newman made a leisurely journey across Western Germany, then the whole length of Czechoslovakia, through Ruthenia and the Ukraine to Moscow. His route homeward was via Smolensk and Bielo-Russia and across Poland and East Germany. He arrived in Berlin just before the fifth anniversary of the building of the wall, and he watched the “celebrations” from West Berlin. Russia, naturally, is the main concern of the book. This was the author’s third visit to the Soviet Union, and he examines its progress and its problems frankly and fairly.”
