The Christian Ideal for Human Society - Alfred E. [Ernest] GarvieHodder & Stoughton, 0, Hardback ..
Condition: Poor. A copy for reading rather than admiring, generally shabby but text complete and acceptable. Gently faded at the spine. Edges of the text block lightly spotted. Tanning to the endpapers. Hinges weak at the title page. Text complete, clean and tight but a little age-tanned with light spotting to start and finish.
Presumed 1st Edition, circa 1932. From the preface: “This volume is a companion to my book, published five years ago, on The Christian Doctrine of the Godhead. As that dealt with Christian dogmatics, so this with Christian ethics. If health and strength be granted to me, I hope in the course of a few years to publish a third volume, which should have come first in order, on Christian apologetics, entitled The Christian Belief in God, with special reference to the study of religions, science, and philosophy. During twenty-seven years I have been lecturing on the History of Religions, the Philosophy of Religion, Christian Ethics, Sociology and Dogmatics; and in these works I am attempting to gather up the harvest of these years of study and reflection. A German theologian, thoroughly familiar with the theological books in English, remarked to me recently that what he missed was books on systematic theology. Whatever value the result may have, it is my purpose at least to present a system of Christian thought, life, and work.”
