Broadcasting, Society and the Church: Report of the Broadcasting Commission of the General Synod of the Church of England - ANON

Church Information Office, 1973, Paperback ..
Condition: Good. A pleasant enough reading copy. Gently rubbed at the edges of the spine and wrappers, the wrappers are also faded and lightly soiled. Text complete, clean and tight but a little fragile now.

From the cover: “This Report has been produced by a Broadcasting Commission specially appointed by the Church of England in 1970 under the Chairmanship of Sir William Hart, CMC, formerly the Director-General and Clerk of the Greater London Council. Although the Commission was originally set up with the primary task of preparing evidence for a Government Committee it was left in the end with a different purpose, namely to stimulate and assist discussion, not exclusively by Anglicans, of many aspects of broadcasting, in the hope of creating a more informed public opinion by the time when important Government decisions on broadcasting policy have to be made prior to 1981. The main chapters represent a selection of facts and opinions of which the Commission believes that the Christian public ought to be aware and the scope of the Report can be judged from the chapter headings — Broadcasting and Society, Broadcasting Structures, Broadcasting Standards^ Religious Broadcasting, Anglican Advisory Systems, and Training. At the end of its Report the Commission offers thirty-eight unanimous ‘Conclusions and Recommendations’, and also suggests six ‘Points for Discussion’ for use at diocesan and deanery level.”
