The Last Valois 1515-1590 - André BlumGeorge G. Harrap & Co., 1951, Hardback in Dustwrapper..
Condition: Good — in Poor Dust Wrapper. Unlaminated dust wrapper a little edgeworn and faded with tears and loss at the head of both panels and the spine ends. Price Clipped. Boards a little faded at the margins. Gently bruised at the head, tail and corners of the binding. Text complete, clean and tight but a little age-tanned with spotting to the blanks and pastedowns.
From the cover: “This book — forming as it does a part of the series, Costume of the Western World — shows that history in costume, as in other spheres, provides parallel cases of development in different ages. The last Valois referred to in the title are those of the branch that began with Francis 1 and ended with Henry III. In the colder terminology of dates, the period involved lies between 1550 and 1590, and this survey gives a clear idea of “French Renaissance” fashions.
