From the preface: “Part I of this pamphlet was written towards the end of December, 1957, and sent out to some seventy-five people. The recipients were chosen on no particular principle — most were well-known public figures, others were personal friends of mine and a few were both. A great majority replied and of these most sent comments which have proved very helpful even if they have not been directly quoted in the pamphlet. I would like to thank everybody who wrote to me.
