Touchstones 3: A Teaching Anthology of Poetry - BENTON, Michael; BENTON, PeterEnglish Universities Press, 1973, Hardback ..
Condition: Very Good.
The idea of 'teaching poetry' - certainly if the phrase is used in any formal, pedagogic sense - is, in itself, suspect: why, therefore, have we compiled a 'teaching anthology'? Briefly, we felt that there was a need for an anthology which offered more than a collection of poems. Poetry lessons depend so much for their success upon a sympathetic relationship between teacher and pupils and, although books will not in themselves create this relationship, they can help considerably by suggesting ideas for discussion, by showing different approaches to poems, and by encouraging pupils to write poetry themselves. We have attempted to satisfy these needs while avoiding the danger of setting out too rigid a procedure. We hope, too, that the teaching material we include will provide some useful starting-points for teachers looking for fresh ideas. 176pp. Index. Size: 8vo Demy (8½" x 5½")
