From the preface: “THE outstanding purpose of this publication is not to add just one more to the numerous singing editions of Merbecke’s setting of the Communion Office but rather to provide in readily accessible form an accurate representation of the original notation, spelling, and punctuation, untouched by any sort of editorial alteration. A literal transcript of the text is added in terms of modern notation. There are also included a brief biographical notice; some account of the revival in the nineteenth century; and comments on the text and the notation employed.”
