At the age of 15 years he ran away to sea and this is the beginning of a fascinating story. With active service spanning 2 World Wars, the Russian Revolution, the Spanish Civil War and other areas policed by the Royal Navy. In the Russian Revolution Stan Smith and 24 sailors under the command of Captain Bruce Fraser were captured by the Bolsheviks and imprisoned.
