Few places were more in the front-line between 1959 and 1945 than Weymouth and Portland. The presence of the naval base led to the whole area being heavily bombed. The American entry into the war transformed it into a vast military camp. Between D-Day and final victory nearly half-a-million servicemen embarked from Weymouth and Portland Harbours, many of them American GIs bound for Normandy and the battle to take 'Omaha' Beach. Over 100 photographs and illustrations, 4 pages of- colour.
