Condition: Very Good.
An architectural history. Stratford-upon-Avon was already a centre for tourist pilgrimage by the eighteenth century. The Garrick Jubilee of 1769, the Shakespeare Tercentenary of 1864 and the subsequent foundation, in 1875, of the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre have followed on from the early travellers' visits so that today over a million people each year come to this essentially small English market town to see where the poet and dramatist William Shakespeare lived and died, and to pay tribute to his work in the theatres built in his memory.
