Red cloth with (now faded) gilt embossed titling to spine. The history of the Dukes of Normandy and their Scandinavian ancestors cannot fail to interest many of us today. This book is an attempt to record their early origin from their perhaps mythical ancestor, the King of the Fenni, mentioned by Tacitus as one of the least known peoples of Europe, through their reputed ancestors in Northern Norway to the time of Eystein Glumra, the father of Rögnwald, Earl of Moere, the right-hand man of Harold Haarfager, the first King of Norway. Rögnwald was the father of Rolf, or Rollo, the Conqueror of Normandy and ancestor of William the Conqueror and his son, Henry I of England. He was also the ancestor of the Scandinavian Earls of Orkney. Through Henry the First’s daughter, the Empress Maud, Rögnwald, or Reginald, is the direct ancestor of his Majesty, King George VI.
