From the cover: “Catchpole was the name of the family; there were a father, a mother, Jackie and Ruth, girls of fifteen and thirteen, and Ben, who was seven. There seemed no reason why anything extraordinary enough to make a story about should happen to them; but it did when the three children were travelling back by themselves from a holiday in France. An elegantly dressed lady thought it would be a clever idea to use a family of children to help her smuggle jewellery through the customs. Unfortunately for everyone the plan did not quite come off: and in the two terrible days that followed the young Catchpoles had to use all their courage and wits to get themselves out of some very difficult situations.
