When nationally famous investigative reporter Paul Marriott sees a girl throw herself from the roof of his block of flats, he calls the police and makes a routine statement. The story would scarcely rate a quarter column in his newspaper. But there are things about the event which intrigue him personally. A notebook full of verse written by the girl just before she died; a boyfriend who clearly knows more than he pretends; parents who are too terrified to speak; and a young sister who knows just enough to set him on the trail of an increasingly bizarre mystery set in modern-day London with its drugs, discotheques, punk rock and worshippers of weird sects.
