Recce Patrol - John NairnNorth Stirling Press, 1989, Paperback ..
Condition: Very Good. Leans. Light reading creases to the spine. Text complete, clean and tight. A pleasant copy of a not-so-common title.
Signed by the author on the title page — unverified and reflected as such in the lack of premium but purchased from the estate of the dedicatee so I am reasonably assured of authenticity. From the author’s preface: “This is the story about the part played by a Reconnaissance Regiment during World War 2. It is a true story because that is the only kind worth telling and because life is infinitely stronger than anything the mind can invent. ‘Recce Patrol’ covers a period of a little over three years whilst elaborating on our victorious European campaign. And in order to retain and develop characters I have allowed few changes with principal officers. I have pulled no punches because it is high time the true story was told about the feelings of our other ranks. From Arromanches to beyond the Rhine our front-line troops suffered enormous casualties and our dead, who in life sought no hush or to curry favour with our allies, or broadcast propaganda surely now have a right to be heard.”
