The Manor of Braye is an ancient house in the valley of the River Mal in the fair county of Mallamshire. Behind its cream-washed Queen Anne façade, it is crumbling gently as is its owner, the Marquess of Mallaby.The Marquess has three daughters. The two eldest are set upon selling the Manor and carving up the proceeds; but the youngest daughter, the pretty and spirited Lady Angela, is determined to keep the old house in the family to whom it has been home for many years.
