CLEARANCE OFFER - EXPIRES: 21 October 2009 The crowded troop train on its way to relieve Fort Humboldt wound through the desolate snowscape of Nevada. But this was no ordinary mission, for in the year 1873 the Fort was not beset by an enemy who could be met in battle. This was a different and more dangerous enemy - different even from what the rescuers supposed. Nor was this an ordinary troop train. Some of those on board the train had reasons of their own for wishing to reach the Fort, which they found it prudent to conceal. Some never did reach it, and by the time the lone survivors of the disaster steamed toward the Pass in the country of the hostile Paiute indians, the chips were down in vengeance.
