Monograms and Ciphers - A. A. TurbayneDover, 1968, Paperback ..
Condition: Very Good. Gently rubbed at the edges of the spine and wraps. Text complete, clean and tight.
From the cover: “From psychedelic posters, shop signs, prints, circulars, book covers to the work of Aubrey Beardsley, one cannot Help but notice the great revival of a period of art nouveau that ‘once was’. Although this book was originally published circa 1906, the designs reflect a quality that is eminently fashionable now. The swirling style centred around the ‘S’ curve, the quality and unity of black and white, the delicate but wild lettering and patterns, etc. are all characteristic of much of design today. This Dover publication presents 136 full-page plates with over 1200 different monograms and ciphers. The plan of the book virtually exhausts all possibilities of two and three letter combinations, containing over 900 different monograms and ciphers. In addition there are over 200 designs of two letters with the ampersand and ‘Co.’; number ciphers; designs involving sacred devices and names and labels.”
