The Story of Sintram and His Companions - Baron de la Motte FouqueWells, Gardner, Darton & Co., 1911, Hardback ..
Condition: Very Good. Gently bruised at the head, tail and corners of the binding. Slight tanning to the blanks and pastedowns.
Pleasant colour frontispiece with 2 other colour illustrations and a plate by Dürer. From the note: “The beautiful romance of Sintram and his Companions was inspired by Albrecht Dürer’s engraving of ‘The Knight, Death, and Satan’, a copy of which is given on page 115. The author tells us it was sent to him as a birthday present, with the request that he would write a Ballad to it. This the Baron de la Motte Fouqué did not do, but he carried about the picture continually in his mind, through peace and war, until at last it fashioned itself distinctly into the Romance which has become one of the famous stories of the world.”
