From the cover: “Born in Paris from Franco-Romanian parents Jean Burca, currently honorary President of the EHMA (European Hotel Managers Association) diaries his life in hotels since the second world war. In his early life he spent his time between Paris and Bucharest, where he studied law and was involved in journalism and commercial activities. Going from being a Captain in the Free French Forces to unemployed Frenchman in London he worked his way up through the ranks from commis waiter at the Savoy, London, to manager of a hotel in Colonial Africa; General Manager of the Criterion complex in Piccadilly; General Manager of Reid’s Hotel, Madeira and Managing Director of the Hotels: Georges V, Plaza Athenee and La Tremouille in Paris. Later posts included managing the Metropole in Brussels and hotels for Baron Elie de Rothschild’s PLM chain.”
