They are now almost the only medieval illuminated manuscripts which a private collector today could realistically hope to acquire. Almost 300 manuscript Books of Hours are in the Walters Art Gallery in Baltimore and this superb but little-known collection, assembled originally for the quality of the illumination. forms the focal point of this book.
