The archipelago of the Maldives is made up of 1190 islands which are strung out like pearls in a long necklace, in the Indian Ocean, about 700 kilometres south-west of Sri Lanka. The islands lie on a rocky ridge which rises from the bottom of the ocean at 4000 metres to a depth of around 70 metres, and they are grouped in 26 main atolls, each of which is made up of dozens of islands, even though from an administrative point of view there are 19 atolls. All the marine species illustrated in this book were photographed by the author in their natural habitat. 340 colour photographs. Size: Other / Oversized Paperback. 128pp. Index.
