Scottish Fairy Tales Folkore and Legends - VARIOUSGibbings & Co., 1902, Hardback ..
Condition: Good+. Lightly bruised at head, tail and corners with slight fraying. Leans a little. Endpapers tanned. ½-title and last page heavily tanned otherwise text and plates bright and clean. A nice copy of the scarce first edition.
Blue cloth with gilt decoration to spine, colophon to upper board. Oddly, Hutchinson is credited at the base of the spine. The stories have yet to be discovered which can compete with folk-lore stories in fascination for the young, and the reason for this it is not hard to divine. The folk-lore tale has had its origin among plain, artless people, in many respects only grown-up children, and its survival to our times is simply evidence of these people having regarded it as being too excellent for them to allow it to be lost. 192pp. Size: 8vo Crown (7½" x 5") Illustrated by Geoffrey Strahan.
