5th Impression. From the Literary Biography: “Leacock, Stephen Butler (30 Dec. 1869-28 March 1944), political scientist and humorist, was born at Swanmoor, Hampshire. His parents emigrated to Canada in 1876, and he was educated at the University of Toronto. From 1891 to 1899 he was a teacher in Upper Canada College, then studied at Chicago, took his Ph.D. in 1903, and from then onwards worked at McGill University first as lecturer and then as head of the department of economics and political science; his text-book on the latter subject is still a standard work.
