This history has been prepared to mark the occasion. It traces the evolution of the firm from its establishment in the 1770s by Edmund and Philip Antrobus, through the long career of James Capel, who joined the firm in 1806 and later gave it his name, and on to the present day. The book examines the firm’s business at different stages of its development. It sets out the particular family and business connections, notably with the West End banks and with the investment trust movement, which gave the firm a special character and contributed to its continuity. In addition, the various firms which have amalgamated with Capels are noted.
