Surviving the Killing Fields - Haing S. Ngor; Roger Warner;Chatto & Windus, 1988, Hardback in Dustwrapper..
Condition: Very Good - in Very Good DJ. Gently bruised at head of spine and top corners with commensurate ruffling to the DJ. Pages very gently age-tanned.
2nd Impression. Illustrated with B&W photographs. Cambodia in the 1970s suffered in the fierce grip of the Communist Khmer Rouge regime. Haing Ngor had been a doctor under the old regime, so he was a special target; he recounts the agonising struggle in his own conscience as people died while he watched, unable to help them without betraying himself to the spies who lurked everywhere. His starving wife died in childbirth in his arms; at last, Haing Ngor himself, the sole survivor of his family, managed a dangerous escape over the mountains into Thailand - leaving a devastated country behind him.
