During his lifetime St. Ignatius dictated a kind of record of events between 1521 and 1538 and Father Brodrick has taken what he calls ‘ this very simple moving story’ as the basis of his present book, after supplying two chapters describing the historical, geographical and extraordinarily appealing background of the Basque countryside into which Inigo Loyola was born in 1491.
