From the cover: “Volume II of the Admiralty Manual of Seamanship is a general textbook and reference book for ratings seeking advancement and for junior officers. The general arrangement of the chapters in four parts, Ship Knowledge and Safety, Seamanship, Ship Organisation, and Shiphandling and Navigation, is the same as that of Volumes I and III.
The book has been brought up to date with reference to modern designs of ships and their equipment.
Some subjects included in the 1951 edition have been omitted, for example Aircraft, Ship Recognition, Mine-sweeping, and The Solar System, because they are either unsuitable or already covered in other books.
The chapter on the Rule of the Road, however, now gives the complete 1960 Regulations.”
