From the cover: “As Flagship to the Fleet during the Falkland Conflict, HMS Hermes became a household name known to millions.
Sadly, the ship has now been withdrawn from active service, and, excepting a national emergency, is not expected to deploy operationally again.
This pictorial history has been compiled as a result of pressure from the ship’s company that the premature withdrawal from service of a great ship, known as ‘Happy Hermes’ be marked by a permanent record.
What has been produced will doubtless serve to bring back memories to the many thousands of service personnel who have served on board since 1959. To the general public this book offers a fascinating insight into life at sea in the Carrier Navy over a 25-year period.”
