It was here, where Coal and Cotton dominated the industrial life of the town, that the aftermath of the 1914 war left its indelible imprint on my young mind.
My nine years of strict Wesleyan education almost engulfed my individual spirit, then came the depression years of the thirties, with the political and industrial unrest that followed.
The unemployment of the mid-thirties was only stemmed by a massive expansion of the armed forces to meet the threat of German aggression, In 1935 I joined the Royal Air Force and my four years of service before the outbreak of war allowed me to share in the preparation for the coining conflict.
This is my own particular journey through The Years Between”
