Venetian Gros Point Lace - Nenia Lovesey & Catherine BarleyDryad Press, 1986, Hardback.
Condition: Very Good. Light rubbing to the bottom corners of both boards. Previous owners' inscription to the first blank. Very slight age-toning to the margins of the leaves otherwise a very well presented copy.
Illustrated with black and white photographs & drawings. From the cover: “Perhaps one of the most complicated of needle laces, Gros Point de Venise is distinguished by the boldness and continuity of the designs. The main feature is the raised work, edged with scallops and with many added couronnes and picots. The motifs are connected by irregular bars whose purpose is to hold together the solid motifs at points where the lace needs to be strengthened. The first Gros Point de Venise appeared in the mid-sixteenth century and, today, this beautiful lace enjoys a revival of interest.
The instructional level of this book assumes that the reader has already mastered the basic techniques of needlepoint lace. However, a section has been included which covers the various stitches and working methods peculiar to Venetian Gros Point. The final section contains a number of projects for both fashion items and the home.”
Size: 11¾" x 8½". Pictorial boards. 75 pages.
