Illustrated with B&W photographs. Harriet Cohen, who died in 1967, was one of Britain's most distinguished concert pianists. At a time when English music was unknown in her own country, to say nothing of Europe, she pioneered works by the great Elizabethan composers such as Byrd and Orlando Gibbons. Her memoirs recreate the musical life of several eras from the great musical evenings of the twenties, to Promenade concerts and wartime life in London. Here, too, we see how she conquered tuberculosis and established herself as a leading pianist.
