From the cover: “A survey of the countries of North Western Europe, defined as extending from the North Cape of Norway to the Bay of Biscay Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, West Germany, East Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland and France. An introductory chapter deals with the emergence of each of these countries as entities, a final chapter summarizes trends towards European unity. Each intermediate chapter examines one of the countries mentioned above. Systematic topics (structure, relief, climate, soil, land-use, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, power, manufacturing industry, commerce, communication and population) occupy the first part; the second part describes the main regions within the country concerned. Careful integration precludes overlap or repetition.”
