Maps to the endpapers. Illustrated with black and white photographs. Reprint [1957]. From the cover: “This book aims to dispel a long standing fallacy — that New Zealand hotels lack colour, tradition, and a tale that tingles. To prove otherwise the author, a young Auckland journalist, travelled the country twice – from the backblocks of Northland to the Bluff, interviewing old identities, chasing threads of long-buried tales, and digging deep into newspaper files and library archives. Equipped then, with a roomful of research, he proceeded to breathe life into the bare facts.”
